A Transaction SMS is a priority alert service designed to provide immediate notifications to customers about their transactions. This service is widely utilized by banks, e-commerce platforms, and digital payment companies to ensure timely communication. Under the guidelines set by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), all telemarketers must register with the government to send messages to their audience. This process involves submitting valid identification proof, such as PAN, Aadhar, Udyog Aadhar, or GST. The registration typically takes approximately three working days.
After registering with DLT, enterprises or individuals can register a sender ID associated with their brand. This sender ID can only consist of six characters, such as “PRACHR” or “PRCHAR.” Messages sent will display as “AD-PRCHAR,” indicating the telecom operator (e.g., “AD” for Airtel - Delhi Circle) followed by the brand ID.
Registering a sender ID alone is not sufficient. It must be linked to predefined templates, such as “DEAR XXXX, this is to inform you that your Account No. XXXXXXXX has been blocked. Please call for assistance at XXXXXXX.” Multiple templates can be associated with a single sender ID.

Content can only be in text format, with web links allowed in transactional SMS. Each SMS in English carries 160 characters, while SMS in Unicode (Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, etc.) allows for 70 characters per SMS.
